Washing My Own Underwear

Washing My Own Underwear

Recovery Without Reliance

Seriously. If you have ever had to have extensive surgeries, short term health care, had a baby… No one wants someone else to wash their underwear. Becca’s surgeries tend to keep her down for a few weeks, and after a month in the hospital, all she wanted was to be a little independent.

Laundry is annoying for sure, but it is one of the first things to go when lifting, bending, etc. are a no-no. Jim had to go back to work after being in the hospital with her for a month, so wonderful friends came to sit with Becca (who was having a particularly hard recovery). I remember sitting and talking about her lack of independence. She stated that she wished we could go to the laundromat and do all the laundry so it would all be done. Then people could help put it up – but it would be clean.

We decided to discuss this with her in-home occupational therapist the next day. She was amazing! She came up with this option for Becca:

Rolling Laundry Cart with Hanger

We had no idea these could be bought for home use! Not only did this act as a laundry basket, but it was the same height as the bottom of our front load washers (which we had previously raised using a Pinterest pattern build – future post for sure). Also – because this was such a sturdy cart – Becca could use it to hold onto while she took laundry from washer and put into dryer and then pulled it out and immediately hung up items.

Independence Achieved!

It’s also usable for many other things than laundry! For instance, bringing groceries inside, taking items room to room, keeping items handy near the bed but not all over the floor. She used this for everything!

The next time a friend is having a surgery and worried about doing chores around the house – this is the perfect gift!

Washing your own underwear = priceless!
